How To Become an Elementary School Teacher


Education imparted to children between the age group of 4 to 14 years is referred to as elementary education. Next to America, India's is considered the second largest and most well-developed education system, although in rural areas the number of drop-outs is quite high. The government is taking steps to build the scenario by creating programs that are easily accessible to all in order to encourage them to pursue higher education. It is important to provide proper training to the teachers entrusted with the duty of educating the students in order to strengthen elementary education. Lots of institutes worldwide conduct an elementary teacher education (ETE) program. Paid vacations and comfortable hours of working are considered to be the main reasons why people choose to become elementary schoolteachers. It offers you mental satisfaction in comparison to other professions that are less lucrative.


Job description

· Establish and enforce rules of procedures and behavior for maintaining order for the students they are responsible for;
· Observe and evaluate student’s performance, social development, behavior and physical health;
· Prepare classrooms and materials for class activities;
· Adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to meet student’s varying interests and needs;
· Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, work time and demonstration that provides    students with opportunities to investigate, observe and question;
· Using various teaching methods such as discussions, lectures and demonstrations, instruct students individually and in groups;
· Ensure clear objectives for all lessons, projects, units and communicate the same to students;
· Create, assign and evaluate homework or other assignments;
· Read books to small groups or the entire classes;
· Resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems by conferring with parents or guardians, counselors, teachers and administrators;
· Maintain complete and accurate student records as required by district policies, laws and administrative regulations;
· Encourage, guide and counsel students with specific academic interests and academic or adjustment problems;
· Use audio-visual aids, computers and other materials and equipment to supplement presentations.


How?

· Take courses in math, English, science, history, the arts and sociology along with child psychology development to ensure you get well-rounded education,
· Become volunteers with your youth groups or at your local elementary school in your area to get working experience with young children as documented evidence of your experience in the classroom is mandate before you begin student teaching in most teaching credential programs,
· Enhance existing educational skills by majoring in elementary education. Fifth-year or postgraduate programs, if teacher certification or elementary education is not offered, will help you learn about the entrance requirements such as standardized tests and pre-requisite courses,
· Search through educational placement offices or campus career; if listings in your area are unavailable, contact them directly,
· Update yourself regularly by joining a professional association such as the National Education Association or the American Federation of Teachers.
